BIOGRAPHY
Owner of more halfpipe titles than any other rider in history, including a gold medal at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics and a 1998 Olympic bronze medal, Powers has made a return to snowboarding, only in a different discipline - snowboardcross. It came as a surprise to no one that Powers had some serious talent on the SBX course. He showed off his skills before even making the U.S. Team with a third-place finish in Sunday River, ME, for a World Cup in 2009. Powers went to the podium again in 2010, finishing third in Telluride, before moving on to a new role - Director. Powers was offered the spot of Snowboard Director at Stratton Mountain School and, even though that will be his primary focus, he still plans to hit the World Cup tour from time to time.

ROSS SAYS

Last season I felt like I had a great season, but it was hard coming so close to making the team and not being able to go to the Olympics. I thought I gave it a good run though. 2011 season I am going to be doing some coaching and still competing in the X Games and Grand Prix events. In the future I hope to make an Olympic run as well.

FIRST TRACKS

Powers was born and raised in Londonderry, VT. Considered snowboarding’s first child prodigy, he competed in his first U.S. Open competition at the age of nine with his fourth grade class in attendance. He competed in nationals the next year and was a world champion before his 18th birthday. In 1998, he represented the U.S. in Nagano taking home the first Olympic halfpipe medal for the U.S. Powers dominates the snowboarding world having won almost every title in snowboarding, including Olympic gold in 2002.

OFF THE SNOW

I like to hang out with my family or play sports.
