BIOGRAPHY
A member of the U.S. Alpine Snowboarding Team in 2000, Watanabe has a background in racing, but switched full-on to snowboardcross with the Olympic announcement. After his experience at the 2006 Games, Watanabe wanted another shot at the Olympics and put in the work it took to land another spot on the team. The 2010 season was a huge one for the Idaho native as he came out of the gates with a World Cup podium in Argentina. While the podium practically assured him a ticket to Vancouver, Watanabe took nothing to chance and pulled in another top-three finish in Stoneham to seal the deal. With two Olympics under his belt, Watanabe has solidified his spot as one of the top men in his sport.
GRAHAM SAYS
I'm really happy with last season. I feel like last season I set some pretty high goals, but I worked hard, and achieved most of them, if not all of them. After a season like that I'm really excited to taking a more relaxed approach. It's going to be a little lighter training schedule and lighter travel schedule. That will allow for more time for free riding and allow me to get back to the root of why I love snowboarding.
FIRST TRACKS
Lucky for Graham, Mr. Watanabe (VP of Scott Motorsports) fits into the cool dad department. "My Dad asked my bro and I to give snowboarding a try and it stuck." A good buddy of his then started to compete and he went along for the ride. Then, like any good addiction, success led to motivation.
OFF THE SNOW
You can find me mountain biking, Frisbee golfing, regular golfing, rock climbing and I just enrolled back into classes.
